Filipinos are among the most active social media users in the world, so Facebook and Instagram feel like the obvious place to advertise. But people also search Google every day for products and services they need right now. Which channel deserves your first serious ad budget? It depends on one thing more than any other: whether people already know they need what you sell.

The core difference: intent vs discovery

Google Search Ads show up when someone types a query like “aircon repair Pasig” or “accounting firm for startups”. The demand already exists; you're competing to be the one they choose. That makes Google strong for urgent, high-intent services.

Facebook and Instagram Ads (Meta Ads) reach people based on interests, behaviour and demographics while they scroll. Nobody is searching for you yet, so the ad has to create interest. That makes Meta strong for visual products, new concepts, events and offers with broad appeal.

When Google Ads usually wins

  • Emergency or urgent services: repairs, clinics, towing, legal help.
  • High-value B2B services where buyers research before they enquire.
  • Products people search for by name or type (“standing desk Philippines”).
  • When you already have a solid landing page and want leads quickly.

When Facebook and Instagram usually win

  • Restaurants, cafés, fashion, beauty and lifestyle products where visuals sell.
  • New products or services people don't know to search for yet.
  • Events, promos, sales and seasonal offers (11.11, 12.12, payday sales).
  • Businesses that close sales through Messenger chats.

What about TikTok?

TikTok ads can reach younger audiences at a low cost per view and work well for consumer products with a strong demo. They need native-looking, vertical video made for the platform. Treat TikTok as a third channel once your first one is working, not a starting point.

A sample ₱50,000 starter split

For a service business with a decent website and no ad history, this split lets you learn fast without spreading too thin:

ChannelMonthly spendPurpose
Google Search₱30,000Capture high-intent searches for your main services
Meta (Facebook & Instagram)₱15,000Retarget site visitors and test one lead or message campaign
Testing reserve₱5,000Try a new keyword group, audience or creative angle

For a visual consumer brand, flip the first two rows. Either way, review results after four to six weeks and move budget toward whatever produces the lowest cost per qualified lead, not the cheapest click.

Five things that matter more than the channel

  1. Tracking. Set up GA4 conversions, the Google Ads tag and Meta Pixel with Conversions API before spending a peso. Without them, platforms optimise blind.
  2. The landing page. Send ads to a focused page with one offer and one form, not your homepage. A good landing page can halve your cost per lead.
  3. Speed to lead. Reply to enquiries within minutes during business hours. Leads go cold fast, especially on Messenger.
  4. Honest ad copy. Avoid exaggerated claims and guarantees. Ad platforms review ads and landing pages, and misleading promises get campaigns disapproved.
  5. Patience with learning. Both Google and Meta need conversion data to optimise. Avoid changing everything every few days.

The bottom line

If people already search for what you sell, start with Google. If you need to create demand or sell visually, start with Meta. Most growing businesses end up using both, with SEO slowly lowering how much they need to pay for clicks. Our ads strategy service plans and runs both channels from one budget, or you can get a free review of your current campaigns through our audit form.
